Struggling With a Difficult Conversation With Your Boss

Do you feel uncomfortable discussing workplace conflicts, requesting a pay raise, talking about holidays, personal situations, or other issues with your boss?

Are you unsure of how they will respond? Or do you feel that your boss is part of the problem?

These situations can be uncomfortable, especially if you have never been in that position before and want to avoid upsetting anyone. However, it’s important to remember that you have the right to seek support, and you shouldn’t feel ashamed to do so.

We recommend, where possible and if you feel comfortable, being open and honest with your boss from the start. This approach can help reduce tension and the risk of information being relayed through others.

If this is not an option, consider reaching out to someone else in the business, such as another senior person or a human resources officer.

At Mas National, we can provide assistance in building confidence and communication skills through training materials and discussions.

Please reach out to our friendly team via the MasConnects app’s “I NEED ASSISTANCE” button or by calling 1300 627 628.

The Fair Work Ombudsman’s Online Learning Centre also offers a free online course that can help you prepare for difficult conversations. This course provides practical advice on how to discuss topics such as fair pay, leave entitlements, and changes to your work hours.
