Age is Just a Number. The Story of Krystopher Kot.

Your age should not stop you from learning new skills and pursuing a new career, and Krystopher Kot is here to prove that.

Krys became an Australian Apprentice at the age of 38, and is currently undertaking a Certificate 3 in Agricultural Mechanical Technology.

After completing year 12 in WA, Krys then moved to Hamilton (VIC) but at the time he was unsure of what career path to pursue.

Krys always had a “knack” for all things mechanical, and ended up securing a job with a local Motorbike business working with a number of parts and accessories. A decade later, he was ready to change jobs, and in 2021 was offered a position working for an Agricultural Company. That was when Brandts took him under their wing, giving him the opportunity to work closely with a number of Senior Mechanics and Apprentices.

It was in this environment that he thrived, and was inspired him to pursue a new career as a Diesel Mechanic.

“Watching the tradesmen and Apprentices sparked my interest in Diesel Mechanics,” Krys said.

“I am a little older than the average Apprentice, but I am excited on my new career journey.”

He said Brandts has been supportive since the beginning.

“It’s wonderful to be a part of a workforce that has workers of all ages and cultures. It adds diversity to the team and makes every day different. We have a fantastic group at Brandts and will always support our employees in their goals and achievements,” said Sam Brown, Brandts Site Manager.

Krys says that age should not be a limitation for any plans you may have.

“Taking on an Apprenticeship at any age is a great opportunity. If you are unsure of what you want to do, it’s okay. There is always time and plenty of people that will support you along the way,” said Krys.
