In 2013, Amir left his home country in Iran, seeking a new life on a different continent. His journey took him through Dubai (United Arab Emirates) and Jakarta (Indonesia). Upon reaching Australia, he faced detention and spent almost two years in a refugee camp on Christmas Island.
Arriving at the age of 26, Amir already had extensive experience as an Electrician, a trade he started at just the age of 13.
Despite not qualifying for recognition of prior learning, he approached Mas National in 2018 to enrol in a four year Electrical Apprenticeship, earning the credentials needed to work as a qualified Electrician. Throughout the entirety of his Apprenticeship, Amir lived and worked in Melbourne, however had to travel to Gordon TAFE in Geelong (70km) to satisfy his Regional Study requirements, as per the conditions of his Visa.
By August 2022, Amir had successfully completed his Apprenticeship and immediately pursued additional training to obtain licenses in Air-conditioning and Solar Battery.
This led him to establish his own business, and within seven months, Amir hired his first Apprentice, Mehrdad (pictured right). Our Business Consultant, Gino Tota, personally met with Amir to not only congratulate him on his success, but provide support in signing up his second Apprentice, Youssef (pictured left).
Amir is now in the process of finalizing his Permanent Residency, but despite achieving many goals throughout his career, his mission extends beyond personal success.
“He intends to keep growing his business and support other refugees,” shared Gino.
Amir’s journey is truly inspiring and it’s wonderful to see him continue to thrive, giving back to the community that supported him since day one.
